Remedial massage is a specialized form of massage, used for treatment of the muscle, joint and soft tissues of the body, using deep and superficial massage strokes, with passive, active and resistive movements. Deep tissue work is applied to stimulate circulation, release muscular spasm and to soften previously injured and consequently restrictive tissues which sometimes cause discomfort. It is also used to promote relaxation.
Holistic massage treats the individual as a whole - body, mind and spirit - rather than concentrating on physical conditions in isolation.
In holistic massage the attitude of both giver and receiver and the communication between them are of paramount importance to the effect of the treatment.
