Reflexology is a form of physical therapy where reflexes on the feet and sometimes the hand and head are worked on to re-establish balance and health.
The feet contain a map of the body and reflect blockages and stress. A trained reflexologist knows the right places to apply massage or pressure to bring back equilibrium to the whole person.
A reflexology session lasts about an hour and is relaxing and rejuvenating. Between six and eight sessions are recommended for most problems. It is advisable to follow this initial course of reflexology with preventative and body maintenance visits every six weeks or so.
Reflexology is a relaxing and enjoyable treatment. Many people have benefited from it and its origins go back in time to ancient Egypt, Peru and China. It was revived in America by a Dr. Fitzgerald in the 1920s; he noticed the link between tender areas on the feet and the disorders of the body. It is now practised widely all over the world.
